An antique Chinese charm with natural patina, this token depicts the "five poisons" - five poisonous animals: snake, toad, centipede, lizard and spider.  These charms were commonly worn on the body or nailed to doorways or gates to keep away dangers and evils, as the belief was that poison counters poison.

Coins that are warped or bent may be tapped flat gently against your bench block using a rawhide or nylon mallet.
